Dust off those VHS players! Renowned indie horror publisher DreadXP announced an April 25, 2023, launch date for cartoon edutainment-themed horror game, Amanda the Adventurer, for PC!

Developed by MANGLEDmaw Games, Amanda the Adventurer is a found footage style horror title that’s a throwback to the television edutainment era. In the game, players embody Riley Park who inherits their Aunt Kate’s house following her death. The adventure starts with the seemingly banal task of digging through the reclusive aunt’s attic, where Riley comes across a box full of VHS tapes. Watching through them, they discover that the tapes contain episodes of a long-lost children’s show starring the plucky Amanda the Adventurer and her cowardly yet loyal sidekick, Woolie the Sheep.

At first glance, the videos seem innocently childish and wholesome, depicting two best buddies as they explore and learn all about their wonderful world. However, the longer the videos are watched, the more a creeping, sickening feeling emerges that something in the tapes is watching back. Every day’s another adventure!

Funcom Reveals New Rhythm FPS Metal: Hellsinger

Next year will have you shoot demons and devils to the beat of headbanging metal music, as developer The Outsiders and publisher Funcom are proud to announce the upcoming rhythm FPS Metal: Hellsinger.

Metal: Hellsinger is a rhythm FPS, where your ability to shoot on beat will increase your power and intensify the music. Featuring an original soundtrack with vocals from metal icons such as Matt Heafy (Trivium) and Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy), Metal: Hellsinger innovates both the rhythm and FPS genre with layered music. Each level will have its own song, and every song will be divided into multiple layers. Your performance will impact how many layers of the song will be played at a time, starting with atmospheric background music, and ending with powerful metal anthems.

“This gives the player an incentive to stay on beat, because the experience becomes so intense and so powerful that you want to keep it that way,” explains Funcom Chief Creative Officer Joel Bylos. “I knew that Dave and The Outsiders know how to make shooters, but I have never seen anything done quite like this before. It’s a very ambitious project and one we are proud to be a part of,” he says.

The Outsiders’ Creative Director David Goldfarb has previously been Lead Designer on Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Battlefield 3, as well as Game Director on Payday 2. He says he has never had more fun creating a game, than he has with Metal: Hellsinger.

“We want to make this the most metal game ever,” says David Goldfarb. “Or get as far as we possibly could, anyway! To make something that felt like a tribute to the epic imagination and joy and fury of metal – not just in terms of music, but art style, characters, lore. Trying to do it has been an amazing joy and we can’t wait to get it into the world for people to play,” he says.

Metal: Hellsinger is due to release on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X in 2021. The game will be optimized for next-gen consoles, with improved visuals, up to 120 frames per second, and drastically reduced loading time.

Ghibli-inspired Puzzle-Platformer Eternal Hope Explores Love, Life, and Death (PC, Xbox)

Doublehit Games — an independent game development studio focused on mystical and emotional games — announced today their captivating adventure puzzle platformer, Eternal Hope. Launching on PC via Steam on August 6, 2020, and later this year on Xbox One, Eternal Hope explores the toil of life after — and during — death as you travel between dimensions in a quest to be reunited with your beloved.

Inspired by the artistic stylings of Studio Ghibli and featuring beautiful environments and an intensely emotional storyline, Eternal Hope follows the story of Ti’bi, a boy who must travel between two dimensions in search of his lost love’s soul. Embarking on a journey filled with undying love and unwavering hope, players will use intuition and quick-on-their-feet thinking to find clever ways to overcome the many obstacles and puzzles in their path.

Granted the ability to travel between dimensions, he will use this power, along with a few helping hands from otherworldly beings, to solve puzzles that will ultimately lead him to his love’s final resting place in the great beyond. Visiting the Shadow World is no easy feat, however. With corrupted creatures inhabiting this mirror dimension, Ti’bi will make friends — and many enemies — along the way while unearthing ancient secrets, none of which were meant for the living to discover.
